Rehoming 'Spent Hens'

At 72 weeks old commercial hens are deemed 'spent' and sent to slaughter!

Where to start ??

Thankfully there are a number of rehoming organisations all across the UK who work tirelessly to take commercial hens out of cages, barns and some free range systems for rehoming.

Rehoming organisations work closely with egg production facilities to make rehoming possible. It takes a respectful approach to secure agreements with farmers and business' alike to allow the volunteers in to remove hens for rehoming.

On this page you will find links to different organisations across the UK. You can then read up each of their requirements and process for registration etc. They will all be happy to chat through any questions you may have.
